چکیده

Wild oat is a widespread threat to annual crop production on the Canadian Prairies. Infestations are difficult manage due persistent seedbank, complex dormancy, long emergence window, herbicide resistance, and seed shatter corresponding harvest timings. The study objective was evaluate efficacy of potassium nitrate (KNO 3 ) pyroligneous acid for promoting germination wild volunteer wheat, barley, oat. A total 24 repeated experiments were conducted using freshly produced seeds ensure adequate endodormancy. Wheat barley demonstrated no endodormancy following formation rapidly emerged with moisture. All species imbibed but did not germinate in Petri dishes within solutions 5%–100%. Dormancy release observed 0.1% 1% solutions. KNO stimulate or any inhibitory at 125 kg N ha −1 . Pyroligneous increased 50% 100% applied 200 L first 10% second study. Emergence inhibition noted oat, wheat applications. This research further confirms that may activity matured seed.

Water security in the Canadian Prairies: science and management challenges.

In this paper, we discuss the multiple dimensions of water security and define a set of thematic challenges for science, policy and governance, based around cross-scale dynamics, complexity and uncertainty. A case study of the Saskatchewan River basin (SRB) in western Canada is presented, which encompasses many of the water-security challenges faced worldwide. A science agenda is defined based ...

Continuous Cropping and Moist Deep Convection on the Canadian Prairies

Summerfallow is cropland that is purposely kept out of production during a growing season to conserve soil moisture. On the Canadian Prairies, a trend to continuous cropping with a reduction in summerfallow began after the summerfallow area peaked in 1976. This study examined the impact of this land-use change on convective available potential energy (CAPE), a necessary but not sufficient condi...

Annual Climatology of the Diurnal Cycle on the Canadian Prairies

We show the annual climatology of the diurnal cycle, stratified by opaque cloud, using the full hourly resolution of the Canadian Prairie data. The opaque cloud field itself has distinct cold and warm season diurnal climatologies; with a near-sunrise peak of cloud in the cold season and an early afternoon peak in the warm season. There are two primary climate states on the Canadian Prairies, se...
